How to Prepare for Your Newborn Photography Shoot in Burke, VA

Plan and Prepare for your Photos

Having a professional photo shoot with your newborn bundle of joy is an exciting time. The opportunity to have beautiful pictures for your family and your child’s future is an important decision and step in your journey through parenthood. Many parents are unaware of the small aspects which can go wrong during a newborn photography shoot. Luckily, however these small disasters are easy to plan against with a few simple steps!

Happy Baby

You obviously don’t want to have a picture crying, distressed or angry baby to remember your child for the rest of their lives therefore your baby has to be completely happy. Make sure your child has been fed, is warm, has been changed and, if possible, has been bathed. This way, your clean and happy baby will be shining in the photos.

Props

Quite often, parents have unique and special items which they would like to have present at their baby’s first photo shoot. If you have any antique chairs, wedding rings, heirloom baskets or pictures of loved ones lost, it is a good idea to have these ready for when the photographer arrives. That way he or she will be clear on exactly the type of photos you want.

Poses

Your photographer will want to take a number of different poses with your baby to ensure that you have a range of cute and beautiful pictures to choose from to send to friends and relatives. It is likely that your photographer will have a sequence of poses which cause the baby least distress. Often they begin with poses on blankets (as this is comforting to the baby as it feels as though it is in its mummy’s tummy still) moving onto clothing (such as hats, pashminas and scarves), nude pictures and finally pictures on the floor. They may also take pictures in beautiful furniture items such as chairs, chests, bowls and baskets. Make sure you are able to recognise when your baby is not happy and also work out ways to make your child happy again. It might be worth giving your child an experience of sleeping in chests and chairs before the photographer comes.

Pictures with Other Family Members

It can be stressful and irritating if family members who are meant to pose with your child are late or forget the time. Make sure they know exactly when it is and when to turn up. It is a good idea to invite them for a coffee and some cake or lunch beforehand, therefore you will know for sure that they will be at your house for when the photographer comes.

Remember! If you are relaxed, calm and happy so will your baby!
